Read about the most important technical considerations for implementing SAP SuccessFactors Calibration in your company’s performance processes.
1. Introduction to SAP SuccessFactors Calibration
SAP SuccessFactors Calibration makes it easy to objectively compare teams and find, reward, and develop your true top performers.
Calibration can be a step in a Performance Management Review or a Compensation Review. Still, it can also calibrate Employee Profile data or Talent Flag data related to Succession. Accordingly, this blog post will focus on Performance Calibration.
2. Technical Considerations for Performance Calibration
In the following, I will address the most relevant technical considerations you have to consider before implementing calibration in your SuccessFactors performance processes.
2.1. Performance Form Ratings
Performance forms must have manual ratings configured as to be able to modify the ratings during the calibration session. However, system-calculated ratings on a performance form cannot be calibrated.
The sections allowing manual rating include:
- Summary section
- Objective/Competency Summary section
- Performance/Potential section
- Customized Weighted Rating section
2.2. Calibration Route Map
Calibration takes place when all employee performance forms are in the same route map step with the rating of record completed. We’d recommend having a route step specifically for Calibration to eliminate confusion about when performance form ratings will be calibrated.
In the following screenshots you can see the setup for the HR Review step for calibration:
Important: The step to calibrate ratings must be a single role or a collaborative route step.
2.3. Calibration Template
The specifications for calibration sessions in an organization are configured in the calibration template to create a “shell” that collects data needed to calibrate ratings.
Also, calibration sessions need to extract ratings from the performance forms correctly. Therefore, the review period dates configured in the calibration template must match those set for the performance form.
