What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the data displayed in the comment form, as well as the visitor's IP address and the user-agent string (which identifies the browser) to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string (also called a hash) may be created from your email address and passed to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. You can find the privacy policy of the Gravatar service here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible in the context of your comment.
Media
If you are a registered user and upload photos to this website, you should avoid uploading photos with EXIF GPS location data. Visitors of this website could download photos stored on this site and extract location information from them.
Contact form and contact via email
We offer a contact form on our website so that you can reach out to us with questions about Diokles, our website, and any other inquiries. Additionally, you can contact us via email.
When you contact us through the contact form or by email, we will store the information you provide (including your email address, first and last name, the content of your inquiry, and any other details you provide in the form or email) in order to process your request and respond to your questions.
We will delete the data collected in connection with your inquiry/contact as soon as it is no longer needed to process your request. If there are legal retention requirements, the data will be stored for the duration of the required retention period.
Cookies
When you leave a comment on our website, it may be considered as consent to store your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is a convenience feature so that you don't have to enter this information again when posting another comment. These cookies are stored for one year.
If you have an account and log in to this website, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will set some cookies to store your login information and display preferences. Login cookies expire after two days, and display preference cookies expire after one year. If you select 'Stay logged in', your login will be maintained for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the login cookies will be deleted.
When you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal data and only refers to the post ID of the article you are currently editing. The cookie expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on this website may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking services, and record your interaction with this embedded content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics services
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service from Google Inc. ("Google").
Google Analytics uses so-called "cookies", text files that are stored on users' computers and allow an analysis of how the website is used. The information generated by the cookie about the users' use of this website is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. On this website, IP anonymization is activated, so the users' IP addresses are first shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. Therefore, we would like to point out that data processing under Google Analytics may, in some cases, take place outside the scope of EU law.
On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate the users' website usage, compile reports on website activity, and provide further services related to website and internet usage to the website operator. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other data from Google.
We only use Google Analytics with your consent.
You can also prevent the storage of cookies by adjusting the settings in your browser software; however, we would like to point out that in this case, you may not be able to fully use all features of this website.
You can also prevent Google from collecting data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address), as well as from processing this data, by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link. The current link is: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
Alternatively, you can prevent data collection by Google Analytics by disabling performance cookies in your cookie settings.
How long we store your data
When you write a comment, it will be stored indefinitely, including metadata. This allows us to automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For registered users, we additionally store the personal information they provide in their user profiles. All users can view, modify, or delete their personal information at any time (the username cannot be changed). Website administrators can also view and modify this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this website or have written comments, you can request an export of your personal data from us, including all the data you have provided. Furthermore, you can request the deletion of all personal data we have stored about you. This does not include data that we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security-related reasons.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked by an automated service for spam detection.
Integration of social media
We currently link to the following social media providers: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram through corresponding social buttons. To prevent the unwanted transfer of your usage data (e.g., the address of the page you are currently visiting) to these services, you only access the services by clicking on the link (Social Media buttons "Shariff"). On the service page, these social networks may collect usage and possibly user data. We have no influence on the data collected and processing procedures, nor are we aware of the full extent of the data collection, the purposes of processing, or the retention periods. We also have no information about the deletion of the data collected by the plugin provider.
Therefore, we inform you to the best of our knowledge:
Your browser will only establish a direct connection to the servers of these services when you click on the links. This may indirectly transmit information, such as the fact that you have visited our website (via referrer), to these services. If you are already logged into your personal account with the service while visiting our website, you can usually "share" the content or leave a comment after clicking the social buttons. If you do not want this data to be transmitted, we recommend not clicking the social buttons.
Please refer to the privacy policies of these services for information about the purpose and scope of data collection, how your data is processed and used, as well as your rights and settings to protect your privacy.
YouTube Integration
We have integrated YouTube videos into our online offering, which are stored on https://www.YouTube.com and can be played directly from our website. These videos are embedded in "enhanced privacy mode", which means no data about you as a user will be transmitted to YouTube unless you play the videos. Data as outlined in paragraph 2 will only be transmitted once you start playing a video. We have no control over this data transmission. When you visit our website, YouTube receives information that you have accessed the corresponding subpage of our site. Additionally, the data specified in the section "Description of Data Processing on the Website/App and Legal Basis for Processing" will be transmitted. This occurs regardless of whether you have a YouTube user account and are logged in, or if no user account exists. If you are logged into your Google account, your data will be directly associated with your account. If you do not wish this association with your YouTube profile, you must log out before activating the video. YouTube stores your data as usage profiles and uses it for purposes of advertising, market research, and/or the tailored design of its website. This analysis is carried out particularly for personalized advertising and to inform other users of the social network about your activities on our website, even if you are not logged in. You have the right to object to the creation of these user profiles, and to exercise this right, you must contact YouTube directly. For more information about the purpose and scope of data collection and its processing by YouTube, please refer to their privacy policy, where you will also find details about your rights and privacy settings: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy. Google also processes your personal data in the USA and complies with the EU-US Privacy Shield, https://www.privacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework.
Google Maps Integration
We use the Google Maps service on this website. This allows us to display interactive maps directly on the site and enables you to conveniently use the map function.
When you visit the website, Google receives information that you have accessed the corresponding subpage of our website. Additionally, the data specified in the section "Description of Data Processing on the Website/App and Legal Basis for Processing" is transmitted. This occurs regardless of whether Google provides a user account through which you are logged in or whether no user account exists. If you are logged into Google, your data will be directly associated with your account. If you do not want your data to be linked to your Google profile, you must log out before activating the button. Google stores your data as user profiles and uses them for advertising, market research, and/or the personalized design of its website. Such analysis is carried out in particular (even for users who are not logged in) to provide targeted advertising and to inform other users of the social network about your activities on our website. You have the right to object to the creation of these user profiles, and to do so, you will need to contact Google directly.
For more information about the purpose and scope of data collection and its processing by the plug-in provider, please refer to the provider’s privacy policy. There, you will also find additional details about your rights and options for protecting your privacy: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy. Google also processes your personal data in the USA and complies with the EU-US Privacy Shield, https://www.privacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework.
